I have continued liaison with furniture suppliers as we begin to select furniture that supports our design philosophy - flexible, durable, versatile, student focussed with technology integrated and embedded (finally we can dispense with the computer lab which is a low yield, rigid use of our library real estate). So. Very exciting options.
ASHanging provides some exciting ideas for creating a professional, safe and versatile exhibition space for student work and artefacts. I need to explore this and other exhibition ideas further because there are so many good ideas out there. The focus will be to integrate exhibits throughout the library rather than having fixed a exhibition space.
Developing resources for languages other than English is an urgent focus. We have over 40 different nationalities represented at VIS so it is not feasible to have a comprehensive collection for every language and I do not want a token collection that says "at least we are trying". I have discussed a responsive purchasing model (or point of need service) with a few parents, languages coordinator, curriculum coordinator and director and it seems to be taking shape. I have also contacted a book supplier in Bangkok and discussed other providers with key stakeholders but there is a mountain of work to do yet. I will represent this approach with a dedicated shelf in the library that will host feature literature, tech that connects patrons to services and provides key information for how the #VISLibrary will work with them to connect to relevant resources for students.
So many spinning plates right now but I am soon to start an Advanced Diploma of Management that I am hoping will help me to not drop any and get these ideas into living form.
